Here's the long version.
I decided to go horseback riding yesterday after work. I was cantering Image in a field when she just took off. I couldn't stop her, I couldn't get her to slow down, I had no control. I was practically lying on her neck. I knew I was going to fall, regardless, so I just let go. I ended up hitting my foot the wrong way. Elana went after the horse, and Ally ran to me. She got me standing, and we waited for Elana to come back. She returned and told us someone caught her galloping down the road, so he took her in to put her away. I was screaming and cursing at my foot, it hurt so bad. They tried to hobble me back to the barn, but that was much too painful. I called Jake, thinking he'd know what to do. Of course no one answered. After freaking out for a few minutes, we resorted to calling 911. From this point to getting to hospital was uneventful. I called my parents and informed them what was going on. Jake called me back, I told him the story. They strapped me to a back-board, wrapped my foot in ice and a pillow, stuck me in the back of an ambulance and off we went to the hospital.
Ally came with me, and they got my basic info. After getting a hold of Scott, he came to meet us to drive me back to my car. We sat there for at least half and hour waiting to go into Xrays. I got there and she asked me "Is there a chance you may be pregnant." There was a very slight chance, so I needed a pregnancy test first. An hour later they made me pee in a cup. Half an hour later: "You're test came out negative, someone should be here to take you into Xrays any minute." 45 minutes later the same nurse comes back and asks if I've done Xrays yet. NO! Turns out there were two trauma patients that got put ahead of me. Okay... moving on.
In Xrays, the guy kept twisting and turning and poking and prodding at my ankle. He didn't care that I was practically screaming in pain. After more waiting and being bored, the doctor came in and said (exact words) "It doesn't look broken, but it is SEVEREELYYYYY sprained. We are going to put you in an air-cast splint and get you fitted for some crutches." We talked about drugs and such. I said I'd be fine with over-the-counter stuff. A few minutes later some other nurse came in, fitted the air-cast, showed me how to use it, sized my crutches, and made sure I could use them. (He was about the only nice one there.) I signed a paper, got some info to call in my medical insurance, they put me in a wheelchair and brought me to the car. That was the end of that. Scott was nice and bought dinner for me and Ally. (They wouldn't let me eat or drink anything from the time we called 911 until the time I was released.) Ally and I went and saw Chris real quick. I dropped her off at home, went to work and dropped off the doctors note prohibiting me to work for at least 3 days, went home, and crashed. Literally.
